Life Member: Dave Evans

In the 93 year existence of the League, there can’t be many better known bowlers with such strong family connections to Mid Shropshire bowling history than David Evans.

He was nominated for this honour by Trench, the club he served with such dedication and distinction for so long – as bowler, secretary and groundsman.

In fact his outstanding green-keeping work there was rewarded with the Best in Shropshire title in 2023 – and later that year he and wife Angela and daughter Lucy organised a centenary celebration any club would be proud of.

His great uncle Billy Harris, of Harris Cup fame, would surely have been proud of David as he won a Shropshire Unsung Hero award in 2022.

Sadly, nothing ever stays the same and, at the start of this year, David moved to pastures new a bit closer to home at Edgmond.

Free from club responsibilities, his game has thrived, proving that he can still play a bit by reaching the quarter-finals of the County Handicap with some notable scalps, and the last eight of the Mid Shropshire Over-60 Merit.

On the club front David has played a key role in helping Edgmond finally realise their dream of promotion from division three, topping their club averages in the process.

And let’s not forget his service to the League either, as a long serving club delegate and then Mid Shropshire vice-chairman for a spell from 2018 onwards.

So there can be no doubt that Life Membership for David Evans is an honour very well merited.
