What a great way to start this year’s inductions with the lady who has served, and continues to serve, the League and sport in so many ways.
Brenda Slingo deservedly reached the pinnacle of the game in Shropshire when she served as County President for 2024 on behalf of the League.
Her nomination for that figurehead role was just reward for an early life playing to the highest standards and then putting so much back into the game by coaching and encouraging youngsters to take up bowls.
And let’s be honest, without Brenda, the thriving junior scene in Mid Shropshire would be nowhere near as strong as it is today.
She took office with the Mid Shropshire League in 2018 as a junior team selector as well as joining the selection panel of the Shropshire under-18 side. That has led to hours of effort, cajoling, encouraging and enjoying watching the youngsters compete.
Her wholehearted efforts have kept our young bowlers organised and motivated, kept the conveyor belt going and helped to deliver 5 successive Shropshire junior inter-league championships triumphs.
In Brenda we have someone who lives and breathes bowls – with Mid Shropshire always to the forefront of her thoughts.
She has received many richly deserved accolades and now we have the privilege to name Brenda Slingo as a new Mid Shropshire League Life Member for outstanding services to the sport.
