Life Member: Adrian Smith

The days of loyalty of bowlers to one club are now sadly long gone, but in tonight’s third and last recipient of the award the League is proud to honour someone who is the epitome of a one club man.

Adrian Smith was nominated for the accolade by Hadley USC, the club has has served with such dedication and distinction for so long. There is very little that he has not done for a bowling club that is so close to his heart.

He has held every position, from chairman to secretary to first team captain- and former team-mate and League officer and Life Member Phil King paid tribute by saying: “He never gives up.

“He’s great around the green, always giving support to players old new – he’s even been seen cutting the green!

“Adrian is great at organising comps and work parties and he is a true gentleman.”

There have been plenty of ups and downs for him on the way, with Hadley playing in the Premier League but falling out of it, offset by Mid Shropshire League championships in both 2009 and 2012.

And just last year Adrian helped Hadley USC win the Shropshire Cup for the first time before the harder times returned again this year. But you have always battled on, for the good of Hadley USC and, thankfully, you see brighter times ahead.

So it is time to reward Adrian Smith’s commitment by presenting him with Life Membership of the Mid Shropshire League.
