A stunning six days could end tomorrow – Thursday 8th October – for Stuart Rutter with a second League title.
The Sir John Bayley star made history as the first Mid Shropshire Champion of Champions on Saturday.
And tomorrow the Shropshire senior team man heads to Newport for finals night of the Thursday Night Merit (7pm start) as one of 8 qualifiers chasing the last League honour of 2026.
Stuart was crowned the first League C of C at his former club, Wrockwardine Wood, on a sunshine day, winning a close final against Newport’s Ian Edwards.
But it took a big late effort with some great bowls for the eventual champ to see off the Over-60 Merit winner 21-17 after being reeled in at 17 across.
A field of 42 contested a £200 first prize and the trophy, which has been donated by the League’s current officers, and all but 3 member clubs had a representative in action on the day.
The proud finalists are PICTURED with League President Mike Potter
The Thursday Merit quarter-final draw on Newport No.1 is: Nick Mullinder v Nigel Ferrington, Peter Farmer v Stuart Church, Peter Millington v Jamie Millman, Stuart Rutter v Lee Walmsley.
