48 players are looking for the 8 qualifying spaces tonight for the 2026 Thursday Night Merit Qualifying.
The holder Stuart Rutter takes part at the Bowring on the small green, but will face competition from team mate Pete Grimston, Ladies Merit Champion Carleen Doody-Millington, Telford Afternoon Ladies League Champion Helen Clee and former Senior Merit and Over 60s winner Paul Beer. On the other green at the Bowring is Highley Merit Champion Craig Baugh, our League and Junior Handicap winner Jamie Pritchard and Shropshire 18-25 Merit winner Emmet McKinley.
Edgmond has our 18-25 Merit winner Tom Killen there, former League Handicap winner Ben Delves, Ladies Merit winner Louise Cotton, Beginners’s Competition winner Matt Parton, former Dixon and Driscoll winner Nick Mullinder, Senior Merit winner Stuart Church and Under 15 and 18 winner Logan Church are also there in a quality field.
The Shifnal field contains former Edgmond Open Champion Josh Cotton, Over 60s winner Pete Spragg, Under 25 Merit winner Dan Corbett and former winner of this Pete Farmer.
And our first ever Shrewsbury qualifier has a few juniors there including Jack Peach, Jack Cooke, Emily Hotchkiss and Ellis Griffiths. Callum Wraight aims to win a competition he’s not won before and former League Handicap consolation winner Lee Walmsley is there.
