The second Thursday Night Merit of the year takes place tonight at Newport form 7 p.m. with holder Stuart Rutter aiming for the rare feat of winning the same trophy twice in the same season! He has Lee Walmsley first game, who won our consolation event in the League Handicap last season. Pete Farmer won the Newport Open last week on this green and will start as favourite because of that. He has Stuart Church first game though, still buzzing over beating his son Logan in qualifying last week. Nick Mullinder reached the Quarter Finals of the Champion of Champions last week and plays Nigel Ferrington first round, winner of the Saturday Bandit Series this year. The other tie is an all Trench affair, captain Pete Millington taking on Harris Shield player of the match Jamie Millman.
Good luck to all players tonight.
