Shropshire Verti-Drain & Turf Services Mid Shropshire Merit Preview

The finals of the 2026 Shropshire Verti-Drain & Turf Services takes place later today at Donnington Wood starting at 2 p.m.

There are only three former winners in the field. Harry Church, the defending Champion, has Rob Stevenson first up which will be a tough start to his defence. Roy Bradburn won this in 2007, and last year’s Over 60s Merit Champion has potentially the youngest ever qualifier in 14 year old Ellis Griffiths, who has won the Harold Kaye trophy this season. Pete Farmer last won this 36 years ago as a fresh faced 23 year old, and has his Sinclair team mate Dan Williams first up, Dan coming off winning the St George’s 2 man competition last weekend.

There are a few former Dixon and Driscoll Double winners in the field as well. Nick Mullinder won that twice and plays Allan Smith of Newport, while Sinclair pair John Potter and Ayden Smith play Horsehay duo Rob Clarke and Gareth Jones respectively. Nathan Lacey has enjoyed a great season so far and has Lillo Farruggio while the last tie is between Steve Worthington and Paul Osborne.

Donnington are putting on a BBQ.
