What a way to bring the curtain down on Friday night bowling in the League!!!
Possibly the best-yet season-ending ladies versus gents match for the Dave Ellis Shield at Maddocks on 26th September was a resounding success.
A 23-a-side match of 15-up games had to start at 6pm – and 3 hours 30 minutes later there was just 11 chalks separating the two sides.
The gents ended up the winners to leader the series 4-3 after it had looked like plain sailing for them early on as they reeled off the first 8 winners.
But all those card were close and the ladies, with fine wins by Jodie Simmonds (21-7), Denise Tonks (21-10) and Sharon Duncan (21-10), soon hit back to take the lead and really apply the pressure.
It took a tide-turning 21-11 card from a jovial Les Pritchard, allied to 21-13 wins from Karl Law and Dan Wilson and, finally a 21-16 success from Maddocks’ Chris Dodds on a poignant night for him to get the job done.
The victorious gents team is pictured after enjoying a smashing post match buffet put on by Maddocks BC. Thanks to Edwin Wilkes for the image!
Victory ended a run of 2 successive triumphs by the ladies, who had 9 winners in total on the night – but will need to do better at Broseley next year . . . or their captain will come under pressure!!!!!
