A young Shrewsbury bowler will make history in the League tomorrow – Saturday 27th June.
Ellis Griffiths, aged 14, is believed to be the youngest ever qualifier for the finals of the Molson Coors Mid Shropshire Senior Merit, which takes place at Donnington Wood with a 2pm start.
The Prince of Wales Hotel player, a regular in Mid Shropshire’s junior competitions, faces past Merit winner Roy Bradburn in round one as the last 16 set out in pursuit of a £200 first prize boosted by sponsorship from Shropshire Vertidrain & Turf Services Ltd.
Despite his age, Griffiths is in the county junior team and is no stranger to winning titles, taking the Tanners Shropshire League’s Harold Kaye Trophy in 2024.
Last year’s Merit champion Harry Church and four-time County Merit winner Peter Farmer are part of a five-strong contingent from reigning first division champions Sinclair, who look set to have a big say in the outcome.
It’s an afternoon not to be missed
