It’s time to take a breath and recover for hard working members and greenkeepers at 3 Mid Shropshire clubs after another action-packed weekend on the local scene.
Edgmond coped with a double header, running their one-day Summer Open on Saturday followed 24 hours later by acting as hosts for the finals of the British Parks Ladies Merit.
Both greens at Sir John Bayley were packed with bowlers on Sunday as a full house of 64 entries contested the Dennis Lewis Open, run in memory of our late League chairman. Current league comps chief Rob Burroughs was the man at the helm.
And just up the road, Sinclair was the scene of the Shropshire Ladies Merit, with Trench star Carleen Doody-Millington (pictured) proudly holding the trophy after her sunshine success.
Talking of Sinclair, Peter Farmer won the Edgmond Summer Open and then hot footed it to Wem Sports to be part of the club’s history-making night.
The reigning Mid Shropshire champions became the first non-Premier League side to win its Mayhew Trophy, beating record winners Castlefields in a cracking final.
Many congratulations go to Harry Church and his super Sinclair team!
