It’s a busy Bank Holiday Weekend for most people, but spare a thought for League President Mike Potter and his wife Linda when it comes to not being able to relax and enjoy the warm sunshine.
He faces a hectic 2 days in his role as SCGBA competition secretary, starting tomorrow – Sunday 24th May – with the county’s qualifier for the British Mixed Pairs at Tilstock, needing to be at the village club near Whitchurch well before the 10am start time to take entries on the day.
Then Mike has perhaps the busiest day of his year in that office on Monday, with Linda and a team of helpers at his side, to organise the County Handicap on the 2 greens at Old Shrewsbury and the 1 that is still is use just over the hedge at Prince of Wales BC. Again it’s 10am start and entries on the day, making the first round draw a major challenge!
Mike was busy last weekend too, performing his Mid Shropshire League duties and presenting the Ray & Jeff Hutchinson Trophy to the Over-60 Merit winner Ian Edwards of Newport (PICTURED), who was runner-up last – see full report under Individual Comps
Earlier in the day, also at Wrockwardine Wood, homester Tom Killen won the Under-25 Merit for the second time – and the League’s congratulations go to both winners, with sincere thanks to all who entered and to Life Member Brenda Slingo for running the first comp of the day.
