As the dust settles on another hugely successful Senior Merit in 2025 – won by Harry Church – there is more great news for the League and its bowlers to celebrate.
Sponsors Shropshire Vertidrain & Turf Services Ltd are committed to continuing with their sponsor of the competition next year.
Director Paul Beer confirmed: “I will be definitely continuing this event next year and try to push to 100 entries.”
This year it was close to 90 and for Harry Church at Edgmond it was like father, like son as he followed in his dad’s footsteps.
Three years on from Stuart’s triumph at Maddocks, Sinclair skipper Harry was too hot to handle on Saturday as he beat Kate Wainwright 21-8 in the final after going 13-3 up, sentencing the Bowring mum to more heartache in the competition after she lost in the 2014 final to her father Richard Suggett at Hadley USC.
But at least this time she picked up a trophy for her efforts in the form of the Potter Cup that now goes to the runner-up.
Harry will receive the £160 first prize at the League’s annual presentation dinner on Friday, November 14, at the new venue of The Shropshire in Muxton, plus a £25 highest break bonus from the sponsors.
“Well done to Harry for winning, thank you to our sponsors and to Edgmond for an excellent job on and off the green, and thanks to everyone who entered to make it the biggest entry for a long time,” said organiser Rob Burroughs.
