Good Start!

The weather may have taken a turn for the worse but it was hot stuff on the opening Friday night of the 2025 season in divisions 1-2-3.

Reigning first division champions Shifnal made a fine start with an 11-3 win at Bowring with historic double averages winner Sonya Lucas among their new recruits.

Arch rivals Sinclair, with four-time County Merit winner Peter Farmer added to their ranks, enjoyed a whitewash success over visiting St Georges while a much-strengthened Donnington Wood line-up won 12-2 at Horsehay with last year’s averages winner Nick Wyer among their eight 21s.

In division two, Bridgnorth flew out of the blocks with a 12-1 home win over Allscott Heath B with new signing Rob Fuller leading the way while relegated Madeley Cricket Club enjoyed a fine win at Broseley in a six chalk thriller in which Kevin Lavelle won 21-5.

And there was a winning return to the League after a 6-year absence for village club Stockton as they won their third division game at Charlton 10-4 with secretary Jeanette Bennett their 21-9 coppers winner.

While all those games were played on Good Friday, teams in divisions 4-5-6 have Easter Monday off before scheduled action resumes on Thursday with early Afternoon Division leaders St Georges away to Albrighton Blue and Dennis Lewis Division pacesetters Shifnal heading to Trench in the evening.

It promises to be a cracking season – and one to really celebrate at the League’s re-branded annual presentation dinner at The Shropshire in Muxton on Friday 14th November. GET THE DATE IN THE DIARY NOW AS PLACES WILL BE LIMITED . . .
