Junior Joy

With plans for a coaching-based Development Project gathering pace, the League is delighted that a new team built around junior bowlers will be competing in division 6 this coming season.

Sir John Bayley’s burgeoning group of youngsters will be in action with James Blair as their manager and with June Lewis having sponsored new team shirts – SEE PICTURE.

Team members were in attendance when the Bayley Club hosted the BCGBA’s first delivery to Shropshire of development equipment.

Paul Ashmore (CEO of the sport’s governing body) and Jayne McKay (National Development Officer) delivered the kits of Thomas Taylor junior bowls with County Deputy President Andy Jones in attendance.

“These kits are funded by the new £1 Annual Development Fee and are available for every club to borrow from its county association free of charge!” said Ashmore.

Coach Bowls Tutor Pauline Wilson, the Shropshire Ladies President, said: “A big turnout from the new junior team with plenty of parental support made for a good crowd.

“Good luck to this new team in the Mid Shropshire League on Monday nights and well done James Blair for agreeing to manage and look after them.

“Any club wanting to borrow equipment please message me as we now have these 8 sets of junior bowls plus multiple sets of 2:00 & 2:2 from Mid Shropshire’s earlier successful equipment bid (a £7,100 grant from Sport England).

“Sets of equipment are currently at Charlton and Albrighton and are there to be used – so just ask!”
