Shifnal is the latest League club to grab the spotlight at the start of high profile end to the 2026 season.
They hosted the Mid Shropshire Mixed Doubles and a pair of Buzzards – ie home bowlers – were triumphant from the 20 entries on the day!
Coping with a four shot handicap every round and giving their opponents the jack at the start of each tie was never going to be easy for Sonya Lucas and Dan Wilson – but they did it and are PICTURED with the trophy.
They became the 2026 champions after refusing to give up the chance of the title when under pressure in both of their last two ties.
They beat Ludlow-based Viv & George Cooper (Meole Brace) 21-19 in the final after being pegged back to 19 across from 19-14 ahead.
And they had a fright in the semi-finals too as they trailed 19-13 against Helen Clee & John Clarke (Wrockwardine Wood) before running out playing along the edges.
It gave the ambitious club a great start to the countdown to hosting the County Cup final on Saturday 12th September.
