Chairman’s opening address to the 2026 AGM:
Good evening, Ladies & Gentlemen,
Well time flies when you’re having fun and to be honest, even through some of the tough times during my 14 years as chairman, there has not been a time where I felt that we were out of our depth.
And this is mainly due to the management and executive committees but especially the officers past and present – we are so lucky to have such dedicated people in those vital positions.
When I met Malcolm to talk to him about taking over from Dennis Lewis, even though I said I was willing to do it, it was still a daunting task to follow Dennis who was a great leader.
The one thing that convinced me to take the roll was the officers – but especially Malcolm, Celia and of course the font of all knowledge Jeff Hutchinson. To have him sat next to me for the first 6 months of my tenure was invaluable. Just a thumbs up or a little whisper of encouragement was massive for me.
As you all know from 14 other AGM speeches, I’m not the best speech writer mainly because I don’t like to be the centre of attention so want to get them over and done with ASAP.
We do have a lot to do tonight with all the rule changes we have to go through, what a nice leaving present!
But again, I give thanks to every single member who has attended the League meetings, every officer past and present that have all contributed to running this great league.
But before I finish, I have to thank one other person who was there for me during the tougher times – just to talk about anything other than bowls was Marg Fletcher, who always seemed to know when I needed that chat.
I wish the next incumbent in he chair all the best – you are joining a great team and I’m sure you will have as much fun as I have had!
Thank you one and all.
SEAN ROUND
