There are 8 first round ties this week in the 1st round of the Ashton Cup. Bowring C have already won their way through, after defeating Shifnal D by 57, winning by 27 at home and 49 away. Holders Newport D start their defence against Madeley CC C, with last year’s runners up Allscott Heath C taking on Sir John Bayley C with just two chalks in the handicap. Edgmond C have the biggest handicap of 34, and have a 25 shot advantage over Trench C, while Bylet B have another good handicap and play last year’s Ashton Shield Finalist Much Wenlock, starting 17 ahead of them. Sinclair C meet Donnington Wood C, with the two having just met on Monday, Donnington winning at Sinclair. Horsehay C of Division Five look to upset Division Four’s Wrockwardine Wood, while last year’s Semi Finalist, Allscott Heath E, play Bowring D. On Thursday Edgmond B play Horsehay B, looking to upset their higher placed opposition.
All players must have played at least one Mid Shropshire game before the 1st round.
