Standards . . .

League chairman Sean Round made an impassioned plea for better behaviour at matches to delegates at the July executive meeting.

He referenced reports received of bad language, bad behaviour and fixture issues which had overshadowed what had been a good start to the season with fine bowling weather and lots of successes.

And Sean stressed that bowlers need to use the right channels to express their concerns – ie via their club secretary.

Bowlers need to be aware of their surroundings, especially when playing in matches with juniors, and be mindful of the League’s Code of Conduct.

“Bowlers, clubs and the League have a duty of care to everyone,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by general secretary Malcolm Fletcher in his report.

“Your officers have been plagued by behaviour issues and fixture gripes on an almost weekly basis.

“And the one thing that really bugs me is the increasing number of individual bowlers who think they can contact officers direct willy nilly – and at any time of the day!” he said.

“The officers are human and we make mistakes, but there is a right and proper way to bring matters to the attention of the League so that we can try and deal with them. And that is via club secretaries!!!

“My message to any critics is easy: If you think you can do better then put up and stand for election to a post at January’s League AGM.”
