Monday Night Merit Finals Review

Mick Jones added to his trophy collection with the Monday Night Merit after beating Steve Watkins in the final 21-12. He went 11-3 up on a round peg from the clubhouse corner and Steve couldn’t put more than two scoring ends together to get back at him.

In the Semi Finals Mick defeated Michael Furness 15 in a game where from 6-1 to Mick neither player scored in more than two ends together. The other Semi Final was the best game of the night between Steve and Abi Helliwell. Abi took an early 9-4 lead but Steve got back to 12-10 down. He then went 17-12 ahead in the corners and then 19-13. But Abi wasn’t done and got back to 19-18 but Steve got the two he needed.

In the Quarter Finals, Steve raced 14-0 up on Des Conneely before winning 5, while Abi also had a fast start to go 12-1 up and won 5 against Eric Reynolds. Mick had a slow start to be 6-1 down against Stuart James but then went 14-6 up over the middle and won 12. The closest game was between Michael and Stefan Whitehouse. Stefan was 14-9 up before Michael got back to lead 19-14 and won 15.

Thank you to Wrockwardine Wood for hosting tonight, and to those who measured and marked.

Pictures are to follow.

Fletcher Junior Doubles Report

Ben Cutler & Jarratt Cotterill won the 2024 Fletcher Junior Doubles with a 21-16 win over last year’s winners Dan Corbett & Luke Morris. They were 10-3 and 16-10 down but won the block back and ran out down the clubhouse edge.

In the Semi Finals Ben & Jarratt were 5-0 down to Billy Walmsley & Jack Cooke but then went 10-5 up. They then went 16-8 up before being pulled back to 16-12, but then ran out. Luke & Dan had an early 7-3 deficit against Logan Church & Harvey Rudkin but from 10 across ran out.

Well done to Ben & Jarratt for winning, it being third time lucky for Jarratt this season after losing in the Under 15 & 18 Finals.

Quarter Finals:

Billy & Jack went 11-0 up on the very young pair of Rory King and Luca Moseley and won 2.
