Hot Harris!

The glorious sunny weather of late may have greenkeepers getting concerned but is has been great for the League’s competitions.

Entries in the Senior Merit qualifiers and Dixon Driscoll Doubles at Newport were up again – and now organiser Rob Burroughs has set a new target for tomorrow’s (Saturday 17th May) Over-60s Merit.

“It’s been a very strong start to the season for Mid Shropshire competitions, with some players from teams entering for the first time,” said Rob.

“Thank you to all those who have entered so far, hopefully this can continue through the season.

“Next competition is the Over 60s Merit on Saturday 17th May at the Bowring at 2pm when I am hoping to at least match last year’s total of 31 entries!”

Entry costs £3 and both greens will be used. There’s no dress code, home players will owe 2 each and the jack and the reigning champion is Paul Beer of Shifnal.

Meanwhile, the League’s congratulations go to Harris Needham (PICTURED) who won the Shropshire player of the match on his junior debut for his 21-14 victory in the away leg at Bangor as the county beat Wales by 31 overall.

Harris is part of the new junior-dominated Sir John Bayley E team in division 6 on Monday nights and has won 5 of his 6 games to date.
