Getting Close

Not too long to wait until the first fixtures of 2025 in divisions 1-2-3 this coming Friday.

But there’s been plenty going on in the countdown to the bi day with action starting in 5 other divisions and plenty of newsworthy items.

The League’s revamped annual presentation dinner is now set in stone for Friday 14th November at The Shropshire in Muxton. The deposit has been paid and the full details will be finalised at the July meeting – but it has already been decided that there WILL be a discounted price for juniors this year.

Talking of under-18 bowlers, the League is delighted to report that James Blair, who is overseeing the youngsters-packed new E team at the Bayley Club, has agreed to help selector Brenda Slingo with all things MSBL junior this season.

Sadly, Ian Pessall – having offered to take on the role – has had to decline the senior inter-league team captaincy so the League is still on the lookout for someone to fill that post – and that of vice-chairman.

The League has received its first nomination for MSBL Life Membership this year, again to be finalised at the July executive meeting.

Work on trying to archive League records going back more than 90 years is due to start with a first session this week.

Back on the playing front, the annual ladies versus gents challenge for the Dave Ellis Shield that brings the curtain down on the League season will be played on Friday 26th September at Maddocks.

And finally, don’t forget Monday 14th April is deadline time for County and Shropshire Cup entries.
