The League would like to add its own tribute to those paid to Bob Mumford at the recent Shropshire Referees Society AGM.
The Much Wenlock stalwart – pictured after receiving a prize on behalf of the club at January’s MSBL presentation dinner – and Whitchurch’s Eddy Broad were in the spotlight when their retirement from active service officiating was confirmed.
“Eddy and Bob have now stepped down from refereeing due to health reasons and the society would like to thank them for all their contributions to the society, Shropshire and British associations in their role as referees,” said society secretary Louise Cotton.
Their retirements add to the growing shortage of active refs in the county – and Louise added: “We are always looking for those bowlers wishing to progress to complete their referee exams.”
But she had positive news too, saying: “Due to the success of the seminar with David Williams (the British Referees Society chief), and a few changes to rules in 2025, we would like to repeat this before the next season starts.
“This time the seminar will be held in the Telford area as several from the south of the county found the distance to Tilstock too far.”
All Shropshrie Referees Society officers and delegates were voted in en-bloc – chairperson, Isobel Jones; vice-chairman, Mike Potter; secretary/treasurer, Louise Cotton; Shropshire association delegate, Linda Potter; British society delegate, Phil Scott.
