They will now play Newport A who got past Bowring A by 22. They won by 32 at home, John Breeze starring with a 21-8 win, and held them to 7 away, Ian Whittington best 21-7. The much anticipated clash between St Georges and Sir John Bayley ended up in a 10 shot win for St Georges. They won by 12 at home, best winner Clay Flattley 9, and drew away, Joe Killen best winner 16. They will now play another Premier League team in Bylet who got past Shifnal B by 61 chalks. They won by 68 at home with 5 winners, Rob Fuller best 21-5, and by 34 away, Matt Ealey best winner 6.

The closest game was between St Georges A and Wrockwardine Wood A, with the Wrockites winning by just 3 shots. They won by 4 away on St Georges, Phil Jones and Hollie Bishton best of 3 winners 12, and drew at home despite Rob Clarke’s best win of 5. They will play Prince of Wales Hotel in the Quarter Finals after they beat Trench A by 25, with a 25 win away being key, Ade Jennings being best winner 2. They won by 9 at home to cancel out the handicap, Ian Payne and Clair Barker best winners 16. Mid Shropshire Champions Horsehay A defeated Madeley CC A by 24 overall. One player registered in a Premier League 12 can play with a player outside the Premier League 12. Anyone who is registered in the Mid Shropshire League can play in this.

The Quarter Finals of the Ashton Shield take place tonight. Donnington Wood won their Preliminary round game against Allscott Heath by 30, winning by 20 at home and 5 away, Steve Corbett and Christian Walne were best winners home and away 21-8 respectively. They now have a bye to the Semi Finals after Sir John Bayley D had to withdraw. The ties tonight sees two Shifnal teams looking to progress, Shifnal C taking on Charlton B, and Division 6 Shifnal D playing Trench C. The other tie sees Much Wenlock B play Madeley CC C.

The Ashton Cup has now reached its quarter final stage. The top two in Division 4 meet as Newport D take on St Georges C, while St Georges’ D team in Division 6, play Wrockwardine Wood C of Division Four. Hadley USC C of Division 5 will look to cause an upset against Bowring C, with an all Division 5 clash between Horsehay C and Highley rounding up the line up.

The winners of the four ties will play in the Semi Finals on Wednesday 16th August.

The two 1st round Harris Cup games between Bowring and Newport and Horsehay and Madeley Cricket Club were postponed last night. All being well these will be played by the next round date of Wednesday 9th August.

16 teams remain in the Harris Cup with 4 of those Premier League teams. One will be going out though as St Georges and Sir John Bayley Premier League teams both clash. Highley take on the holders Hadnall in another fascinating clash, while Bylet have Shifnal B, having to give them 41 shots. Prince of Wales Hotel make their debut in this competition as they play Trench, while St Georges and Wrockwardine Wood Division One sides meet again for the fourth time in 5 weeks. There are three other all Division One clashes with Newport meeting Bowring, Madeley CC taking on Horsehay and Shifnal versus Sinclair.

The top two in Division 4 will meet in the Quarter Finals after both won in the 1st Round. Newport D beat Sinclair by 48, winning by 50 at home, best winner Jeffrey Baddeley 3, and 8 away, best winner Ian Titley 15. St Georges C had a much tougher time against Much Wenlock B, winning by just 10. They were thankful for Jeff Bailey winning 0 away in a 8 chalk triumph there, while at home they won by 12 with Susan Humphries best winner 9. Their D team are also through after defeating Shifnal D by just one chalk. Carl Teece was best winner away 21-1 in a 21 shot win there, but they lost by 15 at home despite Sandra Wade winning 11. There was another close game between Sir John Bayley D and Highley, with the latter winning by 10. They won by 22 away, Brian Durnall being best winner 8, while at home they lost by 11 with Brian Williams the only winner 9.

The biggest win was by Hadley USC C who beat Madeley CC C by 90 chalks. They had an impressive 58 shot win away with all 5 winners led by Ian Bates 21-2, and won by 17 at home, best winner Sue Rew 6. Horsehay C had a big 75 win over Charlton B, winning by 56 at home with four single figure winners, led by Mick Davies 21-0, and by 20 away, Peter Hayward best winner 11. Bowring C beat Trench C by 18 shots, winning by 8 at home, best winner Georgia Rawlins 4, and by 4 away, George Jones best winner 12. Wrockwardine Wood C beat Donnington Wood C by 20 overall, a win of 44 at home, led by Sean Keeshan 21-4, and a lose of 22 away, Owen Cherrington’s 6 win keeping the damage down.

Newport A shocked Premier League Castlefields as another high profile Premier League side crashed out. They beat them by 5 overall, holding them to a 2 chalk win at home with John Breeze’s 3 win invaluable, and then a 24 shot loss away, Wayne Lawrence’s 19 win crucial. Highley’s Premier team avoided an upset as they beat Allscott Heath by 74 overall, winning by 67 at home and 37 away with all 10 winners, Dave East the best at home 21-2 and Kris Johnson and Connor Bray away 21-11. The closest game of the round was between Sinclair A and Sir John Bayley A division one sides, with Sinclair winning by 2, holding the Bayley to a draw at theirs, with Darren Lord best winner 15, and winning by 4 at home, Jordan Millman their best 10.

Holders Hadnall are through after beating Hadley USC A by 39. They won by 24 at home, Kerry Dance best winner 11, and by 21 away, Will Childs best 21-8. Division One Champions Horsehay also progressed against Division Three Wrockwardine Wood B by 34. They won by 64 at home, Gavin Bridge best winner 2, and by 4 away, John Roberts Jnr best winner 15. Bowring beat another Division Three side in Worfield by 43, beating them by 29 at home, Steve Parton their best 21-1, and by 37 away, Nick Marshall best of 5 winners there 21-8. A new Thursday Night Merit is to be launched for bowlers who have played 4 games in the Thursday Night League this season.

It will be held on Sir John Bayley bottom green on Sunday 20th August at 10 a.m. There needs to be a minimum of 16 for it to run, and it is restricted to 32 players.
